Many organisations view water costs as a small proportion of the overall utility spend and overlook the analysis of these costs on the basis that the ‘water bill is what it is’ and can’t be changed.
However, tariffs and charging structures can be incorrectly applied resulting in many thousands of pounds of overpayments – overpayments which you can claim back.
Savings are not only generated on a retrospective basis but coupled with a programme of water management, future unforeseen problems can be avoided. Water infrastructure can also be surveyed to ensure it is as efficient as possible.
It is recommended an independent consultant is appointed who has the time and expertise to analyse costs and identify savings.
A reputable consultant will carry out an audit free of charge.
If you are analysing bills in-house though some basic steps can be followed:
- Check that the tariff detailed on your invoice is correct.
- Are actual readings being used by the supplier?
- Record regular meter readings.
- If water usage is higher than expected test for a leak.
- Consider means of improving water efficiency and reducing usage.
This is a good blog. Keep up all the work. I too love blogging and expressing my opinions. Thanks
